Integrative health encompasses not only a person’s physical health, but also their mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, reflecting the fact that all areas of a person’s life can impact their health. Integrative Health Coaching is a process for supporting people making behavioral changes that improve their life. As a Certified Integrative Health Coach, I provide a framework for people to implement sustainable lifestyle changes. In order to partner knowledgeably and responsibly with clients, and to accommodate their varying personalities, values, motivations and objectives, I use the coaching techniques and science-based behavior change processes taught in Duke Integrative Medicine’s Integrative Health Coach Professional Training program.
For many of us, it is very difficult to make positive changes stick. One reason for this is how our brains create and maintain habits. During sessions, we apply a structured process, formulated from evidenced-based models of behavior change. Taking the time to consider all the areas of your life which inform your health and identify your underlying values helps you to articulate a vision for your life/health. The process includes very specific planning grounded in your current reality (as opposed to an ideal reality), with pre-planned actions that enable you to address potential obstacles. We establish a system of accountability and methods for documenting your development. And we utilize outside resources and expertise, as needed, to help you meet and maintain your goals. Together, as partners, we build a foundation for habitual self-care.
